the Peking (Beijing) Opera House of Beijing The Peking Opera House of Beijing is the largest troupe of its kind. Established in 1979, it combined the Beijing Troupe of Peking opera and the Troupe of Peking opera of Beijing Municipality led by world-famous grand masters of Peking opera such as Mei Lanfang, Shang Xiaoyun, Cheng Yanqiu, Xun Huisheng, Ma Lianliang, Tan Fuying, Zhang Junqiu, Qiu Sheng rong, Zhao Yanxia. With a strong line-up consisting of excellent Peking opera performers of different schools, offering a rich repertoire and consummate art of performance, the Peking opera House of Beijing enjoys tremendous reputation at home and abroad. There are six performance troupes affiliated to the House:Mei Lanfang Peking Opera Troupe, the Second Peking opera Troupe, the Third Peking Opera Troupe, the Youth Peking Opera Troupe, and the Monkey King Beijing Opera Troupe. With a staff of more than 700, it has an art bureau consisting of playwrights, directors, musicians, dancers and artists, a library of musical data, the bureau of performance, the school of Peking Opera Cultivation and Training, and the Administration Department. The elder generation of Peking opera performance of the House such as Wu Suqiu, Zhao Yanxia, Li Huifang, Tan Yuanshou, Li Yuanchun, Wang Yinqiu, Mei Baoyue and musicians such as Li Muliang, Jiang Fengshan, He Shunxin have all made outstanding contribution to the art of Peking opera. Now the House has more than 30 performers of national level such as Mei Baojiu, Zhang Xuejin, Li Chongshan, Zhao Baoxiu, Yan Guixiang, Wang Shufang, Ye Jinyuan, Yan Shouping. Possessing excellent technique of performance and profound attainment, they are chief performers of the troupe. The young actress Wang Rongrong and the Young actor Li Hongtu enjoy high popularity throughout the country. The Peking Opera house has a repertoire of more than 300, including traditional plays such as Qin Xianglian, the Gathering of Heroes, Riverside pavilion, King Xiang Yu Bids Farewell to His Concubine, Liu Bei marries the Young Sister of Sun Quan, Yang Silang Pays Homage to His Mother, The Phoenix Returns to Her Nest, Monkey king Makes Havoc in Heaven, Wild Boar Forest. New versions of historical plays such as Bringing the Painted Dragon to Life by Putting in the Pupils of the Eyes (this play won an important prize in the country), Centennial Rites, and modern plays such as Shajia Creek, Dujuan Hill.
